KIS4SAT was a project funded by the European Commission until January 2011 which created a network to enabled entrepreneurs and Knowledge Intensive Services ventures of high growth potential to seize new market and access to finance opportunities in the field of satellite downstream applications (SATNAV, SATCom and Earth Observation).

The project KIS4SAT established a network of key innovation providers and key stakeholders with the support of two existing networks: ENCADRE, the European network of 20 regional clusters and ESINET the European Network of 27 Space Incubators along with the Consortium of 11 organisations, led by the European Business & Innovation Centre Network (EBN).

Throughout KIS4SAT five intertwined support processes were implemented:

• Assess the research, skills and knowledge needs of KIS ventures in the field of satellite downstream application;
• Foster technological and non-technological innovations, taking into account the dynamic interconnections between research, entrepreneurship, finance and clusters
• Build the KIS4SAT innovation platform where SMEs and entrepreneurs could find the business support packages they need to develop critical mass offers and to accelerate their growth processes
• Test and improve an innovation platform with at least 250 high growth KIS ventures and innovation intermediaries
• Formulate an exit strategy throughout the implementation of innovation vouchers with regional clusters and incubators

The KIS4SAT consortium combined an excellent balance of public/private partnerships, regional development actors, consultants and incubators whose core mission was to accompany their entrepreneurs and SME clients in the daily challenges of launching competitive knowledge intensive services into the demanding market place.
