WP1 dealed with the Assessment of Research & skills needs of KIS Ventures For each of the three domains (GNSS; SATCOM; Earth Observation):

  • Space systems: description of services opportunities based on analysis of current and planned space systems; identification of user-oriented documentation (to be provided by systems promoters or operators);
  • Supply chain: Description of main layers of the service chain (Technologies; Software and data processing; Service production);
  • Critical technologies: Assessment of R&D needs. Recommendations for future R&D activities (ESA and EU FP);
  • Demonstration/validation/certification: Survey of existing or planned technical platforms aimed at validation/certification of new services;
  • IPR: Review of specific IPR rules and delivery of an IPR manual for the use of KIS ventures;
  • Technology transfer: Enhancement of transfer and exploitation of applied research results to Industry;
  • Management Skills and training Skills: Assessment of existing and required management skills of (potential) entrepreneurs.

WP2 had the objective of creating a Clusters Knowledge Depository Reach Critical Mass of competitive SMEs in Satellite Navigation Applications in Europe

  • Improve networks and support structures
  • Exchange clusters' good practices
  • Develop joint strategies for SatNav Applications in EU
  • Identify in the supply chain strategic opportunities and barriers for SMEs
  • Offer SMEs services they want based on time and quality

WP 3 focused on Cluster Synergy Building & Cross Fertilization Cluster Cross Fertilization & Living Labs

  • Initiate collaboration across clusters in the downstream satellite applications area
  • Analyze the current state-of-the-art of the European downstream satellite sector and the role of European clusters within their global environment
  • Comparison of European cluster index results in a global context (comparison with USA , Russia , India , Japan and China clusters)
  • Identification of synergies with ENCADRE/ESINET and mCLUSTERS consortia
  • Establishing and mobilizing links with Living Lab networks
  • Alignment with objectives set forth by the European cluster community following the High level advisory group meeting in Stockholm Jan 22/23 2008 (Aho report)
  • Mobilization of all communities to reach critical mass
  • Identification of 3 regional centres of excellence with showcase projects
  • Organization of roadshows/matchmaking events
  • Identification of European strength/weakness map for downstream satellite mobile applications knowledge
  • Local universities and regional industrial support organizations involved to support and develop business plan competitions
  • Engage the financial community

WP4 central activity was the Design of Business Support Packages

  • Assess the key specifications of the KIS platform to be developed in order to become THE market place for SMEs and entrepreneurs willing to boost their growth
  • Build the appropriate business support packages
  • Provide with updated and detailed information on the competitive environment
  • Build adequate innovation voucher mechanisms based on Public Private Partnerships to ensure a strong institutional support and the sustainability of the developed services

WP5 was the Testing & validation of Support Packages with 250 KIS/Intermediaries

  • To map a minimum of 250 high growth enterprises/intermediaries active in knowledge intensive services in the satellite downstream application KIS platform
  • To test the business support packages with the stakeholders
  • To provide ongoing feedback from actors in the KIS platform about the business support packages they are testing
  • To improve embedding of KIS ventures in the satellite downstream sector within European regional clusters
  • To develop a "train the trainers" programme

WP6 dealed with the Extension of Support Packages & Exit Strategy

  • To have a robust certification scheme in place that will enhance credibility of high growth KIS enterprises
  • To extend the KIS4SAT sectoral network, by delivering KIS tools to a larger target audience, driven by public private partnership
  • To create a realistic and deliverable exit strategy based on market needs (drawing on the testing of the voucher scheme)
  • To play an effective role in the dynamic interconnectivity between other selected Sector Partnerships Initiatives and KISPLATFORM (horizontal support action)

WP7 concerned Project Management
